Community Facilitation
Community development is vital in strengthening economic growth and diversification because a developed community can create employment opportunities, reduce rural urban migration, and the number of people living under the poverty threshold by improving their welfare and livelihoods, as well as partake in economic diversification.
The Community Economic Facilitation is a critical function in the implementation of the SPEDU mandate as it works directly with communities in project identification and advancing them to economically viable projects. The division seeks to organise communities into functional and effective bodies (community-based organisations) that can carry out societal and economic development in the Region. It facilitates the establishment of community-based organization and the resuscitation of collapsed for identification and implementation of community based projects.
The department was involved in a number of community facilitation activities as outlined below:
- SPEDU Region Village Profiling exercise
- Establishment of Community Trusts
- Establishment of Regional Chamber of Commerce
